He said, “One of the cool things about the movie is we’ve created a cinematic universe that lives side by side with the video game universe. This isn’t Borderlands 1 or 2. The Borderlands movie is the first of the BCU. You’ll see some familiar characters but with independent storylines.”
Initially directed by Eli Roth, with a script co-written by Craig Mazin, the movie has seen several changes.
Mazin later removed his credit, and the script is now co-written by a mysterious ‘Joe Crombie,’ speculated to be Mazin’s pseudonym, which he denies.
